What Mindrift is

Mindrift is an AI training platform run by Toloka. It recruits freelancers for project work such as evaluating model answers, writing, coding and domain checks. Its public site is mindrift.ai.

Who it hires

The job feed on Workable (account "toloka-ai") returned 458 rows on 2026-10-09, all marked part-time, but only about 9 distinct titles. The largest were "Freelance Mechanical CFD Engineer - AI Trainer" (115 rows), "Freelance Mechanical CAD&Simulation Engineer - AI Trainer" (114), "Licensed Physician (MD/DO) - Freelance AI Trainer" (112) and "Physician (MD/DO) - Medical AI Evaluation" (112). The same role is repeated once per country, so the real count of different roles is small. See the Workable feed.

Listed pay

The feed has no pay field, but most postings state a maximum in the text, for example "up to" an hourly figure. This site shows that figure as "Up to" a rate: in today's data 9 of 9 listings show one, from $69 to $130 per hour at most. Its blog lists maximums of up to $90 per hour for coding and STEM, up to $50 for design and up to $30 for writing, says all-access projects typically pay under $20 per hour, and says pay depends on tasks accepted, not hours (Mindrift pay rates). Not verified on a live project.

Countries

Each posting names the countries it is open to. Across today's 9 postings, the most common are: United States 9, Argentina 4, Bahrain 4, Brazil 4 (postings per country; one posting can list many countries). Payment options also limit who can join: Mindrift pays where its payment partners work, and its pay page names Payoneer and Tipalti (how Mindrift pays).

Is Mindrift legit?

Evidence in favour: it is run by a known company, Toloka, it has a public help centre and it publishes a referral guide and pay pages. Evidence against, or open questions: the Pulitzer Center report on the recruitment playbook for AI data work is critical of the sector, and the repeated per-country postings mean the feed overstates how many distinct jobs exist. No independent payment reports were gathered for this page, so reliability of payment is not verified.

Payment

Mindrift pays through Payoneer or Tipalti according to its own blog, and it is only available where those work (source).

Pros and cons

• Pro: a clear route for engineers and licensed physicians.
• Pro: the referral guide is public.
• Con: a very small number of different roles behind hundreds of postings.
• Con: the Mindrift referral reward is $7 when the person delivers their first hour of approved video, per its Referral Guide, not independently confirmed (Referral Guide).
• Con: the listed figures are maximums, and pay depends on tasks accepted, not hours.
