Role Title: English Teacher
Role Type: Contractor, Remote
Location: United States only
micro1 is engaging English Teachers to collaborate on a customer-driven project that improves AI assistant quality through real-world task evaluation. In this role, you'll draw on your academic background and classroom experience, including managing student and parent communication, schedules, and coordination, to help train and evaluate next-generation AI assistants. Your expertise in language, literature, writing, and precise instruction following will shape how AI models handle the everyday tasks people delegate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete realistic teaching-related digital tasks (emailing parents and students, scheduling conferences, booking field trips to theaters or author events, coordinating with colleagues) using AI assistant tools under standardized, repeatable conditions.
- Read detailed task instructions and grading guidelines closely and follow them precisely and consistently, including multi-step requirements and fine details.
- Give an AI assistant clear instructions for real-world tasks, then review its work for accuracy, tone, grammar, completeness, and whether it followed the instructions given.
- Apply detailed grading guidelines to evaluate, rank, and annotate assistant responses, with a focus on language quality, literary and stylistic appropriateness, clarity, and tone.
- Draw on your knowledge of literature, rhetoric, and composition to judge whether AI-written text is well-constructed, audience-appropriate, and faithful to the request.
- Use AI training tools and platforms to record findings and submit evaluation data in line with project standards and milestones.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Based in the US, with an iPhone with iMessage and a Facebook and/or Instagram account.
- Bachelor's degree in English, literature, creative writing, linguistics, comparative literature, education, or a related humanities field.
- Strong instruction-following skills: the ability to read detailed, multi-step guidelines carefully and apply every requirement accurately, without skipping or reinterpreting steps.
- Experience teaching English or literature (for example, language arts, literature, composition, creative writing, or ESL) at the K-12, college, or adult education level.
- Solid knowledge of literary analysis, writing conventions, and grammar, with the ability to evaluate text for style, tone, and clarity.
- Daily, hands-on use of Google Classroom to run your classes: posting assignments and announcements, giving feedback on student work, managing due dates, and communicating with students and parents, alongside regular use of Gmail and Google Calendar.
- Experience using AI tools for real, practical tasks, with comfort giving an AI assistant instructions and checking its work.
- Exceptional attention to detail in grammar, tone, and accuracy when reviewing AI-generated writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or advanced coursework in English, literature, or a related field.
- Prior experience with AI evaluation, data labeling, user testing, or similar feedback-driven projects.
- Familiarity with prompt writing and a practical understanding of AI assistant behaviors and limitations.
- Experience grading or reviewing writing or AI outputs for accuracy, helpfulness, and appropriateness.
- Experience writing rubrics or giving structured feedback on student writing or literary analysis.
