AI Training Roles

Bilingual and Language Expert AI Training Interview Questions

Language roles in AI training ask native or near-native speakers to write, review and rate model output in their language, often with attention to dialect, culture and natural phrasing. Many postings require native proficiency and some test it directly. Use these practice questions to rehearse explaining language choices clearly, in English and in your language.

Practice questions

These are practice questions written for this site to help you prepare. No platform has said it asks these exact questions.

  1. A model's answer in your language is grammatically correct but sounds unnatural. Explain why.

A good answer covers: Name the exact phrase, say what a native speaker would write instead, and give the reason: word order, register, a literal translation from English, or an unusual collocation.

  2. Translate this short paragraph and explain one choice you made.

A good answer covers: An accurate, natural translation plus one clear justification (an idiom you adapted, a formal or informal register you chose, a term you kept in English).

  3. How do formal and informal registers differ in your language, and when should a chatbot use each?

A good answer covers: Concrete examples (pronouns, verb forms, vocabulary) and a rule of thumb tied to context: customer service, casual chat, official documents.

  4. Write a prompt in your language that tests cultural knowledge an English-centric model might miss.

A good answer covers: A prompt about a local custom, holiday, legal rule or idiom with a verifiable answer, and a note on what a wrong answer would look like.

  5. Which regional varieties or dialects of your language do you know well?

A good answer covers: An honest answer. Name the variety you speak natively, the ones you understand, and where you would not be a reliable judge.

  6. How would you rate a response that mixes your language with English words?

A good answer covers: Depends on context: some loanwords are standard, others are lazy code-switching. Give an example of each and tie the rating to naturalness.

  7. Spot the errors in this machine-translated sentence.

A good answer covers: List each error by type (meaning, grammar, terminology, punctuation, style) and give the corrected sentence.

  8. How do you check spelling and terminology when you are unsure?

A good answer covers: Name reliable references for your language (an official dictionary or language academy, a style guide) and say you would not rely on a chatbot to check a chatbot.

  9. A user writes to the model in your language with slang. What should a good response do?

A good answer covers: Understand the slang, answer in a matching but still clear register, and avoid copying offensive terms.

  10. Explain, in English, a phrase in your language that has no direct translation.

A good answer covers: Give the literal meaning, the real meaning, an example of use, and the closest English equivalent.
