micro1 AI interview: how it works and how to prepare

micro1 screens experts with an interview run by an AI called Zara. This page collects what is public about the process, with no promises: micro1 makes every decision.

The 30-second version

  • Voice interview in English with an AI (Zara), roughly 20 to 40 minutes. Questions adapt to your answers and to the role.
  • Camera and screen share on for the whole session, according to candidate reports.
  • After the interview: technical roles usually get a coding challenge; evaluator/annotator roles get a hands-on exercise.
  • ID verification with a government document (passport, national ID or driver's licence, per reports).
  • It's free. Nobody should ask you for money at any step.

Before you start

  1. Pick a role that really matches your background. Zara asks follow-ups on whatever you say, so gaps show. See all 306 open roles.
  2. Read the full role description, especially requirements and the "Location" field.
  3. Take the practice interview if offered. Same interface, no surprises.
  4. Set up your space: quiet room, stable internet, decent mic, one screen, no other tabs.

During the interview

  • Answer with structure: what you would do, why, and a real example from your work. One-liners score poorly.
  • Don't name-drop what you can't explain. Mention a tool or concept and Zara may dig into it right away.
  • Think out loud on technical questions.
  • Need a moment? Say so. Long silent pauses can be read as the end of your answer.
  • Don't look things up or paste answers. Sessions are monitored and copy/paste may be disabled.

Common mistakes

  • Applying to roles outside your field "just to try".
  • Underestimating ID verification: delays there are commonly reported. Keep your document ready.
  • Rushing the interview in a noisy place or on weak internet.
  • Generic answers with no concrete examples.

Avoid scams

You only apply on micro1.ai, and it's free. Be wary of anyone on WhatsApp or Telegram promising easy money or asking for payments, bank details or verification codes.
